MONDAY 3/9)
- Dancing with the Stars (ABC, 8pm): Season premiere. “This season, a new feature in the early weeks is a dance-off between the bottom two couples facing elimination.” Steve Wozniak + moon walk = elimination-proof.
- The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8pm): “The guys’ trip to San Francisco takes a detour once they learn that actress Summer Glau (appearing as herself) is on their train.” If you don’t already know who Summer Glau is, you probably shouldn’t be watching this show.
- How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30pm): “Ted reunites with his college girlfriend (Laura Prepon), prompting Lily and Marshall to reveal how much they loathed the snooty woman.” From what I recall, one can easily bond with Prepon over a quick smoke break.
- Castle (ABC, 10pm): Series premiere. “Well-known mystery writer Richard Castle is questioned by a fiery detective about a serial killer reenacting murders from his books.” Kinda sounds like Basic Instinct, sans a naked Michael Douglas. Or Sharon Stone. Or Jeanne Tripplehorn.

The 12th season of America’s Next Top Model premiered on a healthy note last night. (That’s good news for the show’s 13th and 14th installments.) Even though it faced direct competition from American Idol, the CW program was up 11% from its fall debut.
8pm
- American Idol (22.5 million, 7.7/21 in 18-49) was down 1.8 million from last Wednesday.
- The finale of Knight Rider (5.8 million, 1.8/5) lost 21% of its premiere audience.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine* (5.5 million, 1.5/4) gave up 300,000; Gary Unmarried* (5.4 million, 1.6/4) fell by 600,000.
- Lost* (4.8 million, 1.7/5) slipped by 200,000.

Wednesday Ratings: FOX Pulls Out Another One
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, American Idol, Lost, Ratings,
A two-hour version of American Idol only gave viewers more reason to keep their ears - and eyes - on FOX last night.
8pm
- American Idol (24.3 million, 8.9/23 in 18-49) did about the same.
- A special episode of The Biggest Loser: Couples (3.3/9) did 3.2 million better than Knight Rider.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine* (5.8 million, 1.5/4) lost 1.5 million; Gary Unmarried* (6 million, 1.7/4) slid by 1.3 million.
- A Lost* repeat kicked off the evening with 5 million (1.7/5).
- Privileged* (900,000, 0.4/1) picked up 40,000.

Wednesday Ratings: Lost Comes Back to Life
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, American Idol, Lost, Ratings,
Despite a slow decline since its season debut, Lost saw a spark of life last night. Yesterday’s episode saw the return of the Oceanic 6…and the viewers. But, as we know, there isn’t anything Jack or Ben can do to topple American Idol. FOX easily won both categories this Wednesday.
8pm
- American Idol (24.4 million, 8.9/24 in 18-49) did about the same as last week.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (2.0/6) and Gary Unmarried (2.1/5) both pulled in 7.3 million.
- A Lost* repeat (5.6 million, 1.9/5) picked up 1.2 million.
- Knight Rider (5.5 million, 1.5/4) remained steady.
- Privileged* (860,000, 0.3/1) lost 240,000.

Wednesday Ratings: Lost Suffers an Idol Blow
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, American Idol, Lost, Ratings,
There’s nothing like an expanded Idol to give perfectly good shows a hard time. Yesterday’s two-hour Hollywood Week episode contributed to Lost‘s season-low numbers. The good news? The ABC program still had the best demos of any scripted program last night.
8pm
- American Idol (24.6 million, 9.4/23 in 18-49) had 1.7 million tune out.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (1.9/5) rallied 7.1 million; Gary Unmarried (2.1/5) attracted 6.9 million.
- Knight Rider (5.4 million, 1.3/3) picked up 500,000.
- Lost* (4.4 million, 1.6/4) was down 400,000.
- Privileged* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) added on 900,000.

Wednesday Ratings: Lie to Me Remains Strong
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Specials, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, American Idol, Lost, Ratings,
After several weeks, the battle between Lie to Me and Lost remains tight. Last night, a Katie Couric special (yes, another one) helped the FOX series catch its ABC competitor in the demos.
8pm
- American Idol (26.3 million, 9.9/27 in 18-49) gave up 700,000.
- Criminal Minds* (8.5 million, 1.7/5) lost 2.1 million.
- Knight Rider (4.9 million, 1.4/4) saw 1.2 million speed off.
- Lost* (1.7/5) kicked off the evening with 4.8 million.
- Privileged* (920,000. 0.3/1) slipped by 900,000.

Wednesday Ratings: Katie Couric No Star in Primetime
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, American Idol, Lost, Ratings,
For some reason, CBS chose last night - an American Idol night - to test out a primetime edition of their evening news. Needless to say, the experiment bombed.
8pm
- American Idol (27 million, 10.1/25 in 18-49) picked up 1.1 million.
- Outside of repeats, the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric (6.5 million, 1.2/3) had the worst demos of the night.
- Knight Rider (6.1 million, 1.9/5) grew by 1.1 million.
- Lost* (1.7/4) refreshed 5.3 million.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine* (4.9 million, 1.1/3) fell by 2.4 million.
- Privileged* (1.1 million, 0.4/1) did 300,000 less than 13: Fear is Real.

This Week on TV (1/26-2/1)

(You can view TV Envy’s Midseason Programming Schedule here.)
MONDAY 1/26)
- Jon & Kate Plus 8 (TLC, 9pm): “Jon and Kate take the kids to see their new home.” The new place comes with extra bathrooms…and a new set of parents.
- The Closer (TNT, 9pm): Series return. “The fate of Detective Sanchez, who was shot three times and airlifted to a hospital, is revealed.” I don’t know how Sanchez is doing, but the suspense has been killing me!
- Bromance (MTV, 9pm): “Brody tricks the final four into attending a fake launch party for his line of designer jeans, where he asks them to walk the red carpet in pants that are entirely too tight.” Huh. I have no idea why people think this is really a dating show.
- Trust Me (TNT, 10pm): Series premiere. “Eric McCormack and Tom Cavanagh star as two best friends working as creative partners at a top-ranked Chicago ad agency.” Kinda like Mad Men, but without the booze and cigarettes. At least not in the office.

ABC Cancels Dirty Sexy Money, Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Cancellations,
What I feared would probably happen has now just come true. ABC has given the ax to Pushing Daisies. And Dirty Sexy Money. And Eli Stone.
Although an earlier draft of the midseason schedule hinted at this possibility, it was unclear at that time whether the shows were simply going on hiatus. Now we know the sophomore programs will wrap up production after 13 episodes. (If and when those hours will even air is another matter.) While no one is officially using the word “canceled,” it’s unlikely these titles will see any significant ratings boosts in the weeks to come.

Lost Premiere Date Included in ABC Midseason Schedule
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Scrubs, News,
ABC’s upcoming midseason schedule will probably look like a giant gift to some…a lump of coal to others.
The good news? The Oceanic 6 will make their return and the Sacred Heart crew (a.k.a. Scrubs) will have their network debut. The bad news? Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money will both be given (temporary? permanent?) vacations.
